GRAPHIC DESIGNER
The Portsmouth NH Halloween Parade is a "grassroots, all-inclusive celebration of community, creativity, and free expression that walks, stalks, dances, trumpets and drums its way through downtown Portsmouth each year on October 31st." In 2019, a group of 15 colleagues banded together to build something for the parade that we wanted to embody two qualities—it had to be big, and it had to be creepy. The Mind Flayer creature fit the bill—a "fleshy, goopy, liquid, heavy monster" from the third season of Stranger Things.
The lumbering 8-foot-tall sculpture made of PVC pipe, trash bags, and recycled paper stuffing was an enormous success and I found it very satisfying to design and build something that had no existing blueprint or directions to start with!
