GRAPHIC DESIGNER
I'm a big fan of the BBC Sherlock series, and I thought the iconic 221B Baker Street flat would be the perfect subject to render in gingerbread for the Portsmouth Historical Society's annual gingerbread contest.
A keyhole opening in the side wall reveals a detailed diorama of Sherlock's sitting room and the creative use of LED lighting—the only non-edible component allowed in the contest entries. A fire flickers in the fireplace and a chilling message from Moriarty is revealed with the help of a UV LED light, UV-reactive food coloring, and an Arduino microcontroller hidden in the base of the house.
Holmes for the Holidays won first place in the adult category and Most Attention to Detail in the People's Choice awards.
